The Prison Project started in August 2007. Second-hand wheelchair
come from the United States and are refurbished at the Bangalore
Central Prison by the inmates.
Joni and Friends Intl. collects the second-hand wheelchairs in the
United States from individuals who no longer need their wheelchair
and sends them to Bangalore. The wheelchairs then go to the
Bangalore Central Prison and are restored to a like-new condition
by ten inmates (Pictured left). proVISION ASIA then distributes
those wheelchairs for free to anyone who needs a wheelchair. Some
of the specialty wheelchairs that come from the U.S. are not
available in India, and if they were ordered from the U.S. would
cost
thousands of dollars. This project is not only benefiting
physically disabled people, but it also gives the inmates a sense
of purpose and hope and helps with their rehabilitation back into
society.
proVISION ASIA's cost for bringing
the container of wheelchairs through customs, for restoration
materials, and for the inmates salaries is approximately $25.00
per chair (INR 1000.00). If you would like to help pA with bring
more wheelchairs into India please visit our donation page by

Thank you for helping us give mobility, and dignity to India's
